Yahoo, it’s snowing in the mountains, and we’re just a week away from our first snowshoe run on Saturday, December 6th!
We’ll meet at Backporch Coffee Roasters in Century Center (70 SW Century Drive) at 8:30am. Backporch is one of our sponsors; grab a coffee and pastry to show your thanks! Unless otherwise posted, we’ll meet here before each of our Saturday runs. Carpool leaves Backporch at 8:45am. If you will not be driving to the run, please leave your car in one of the farther back parking rows to leave room for business patrons to park closer while we are gone.
The run: starts at the Mt. Bachelor Nordic Center and follows its groomed “Common Corridor” out to Cascade Lakes Highway; then we’ll head west to the Todd Lake turnoff and back. This run has been our go-to first run every year. It’s a simple 2.6 mile out-and-back, and an excellent place to get a feel for snowshoe running. Before we get to running, we’ll talk a bit about etiquette, as we’ll be sharing the trail with skiers, and probably some snowmobilers on the highway.
A SnoPark permit is not needed this week. Other runs will require a permit to park. If you have questions, check our FAQ or post a comment below.
Get ready for a winter full of gorgeous fun on the trails with friends. See you soon!
The long-awaited Sugoi shirt sizing kit has arrived!
Visit Footzone during business hours TODAY— Friday, November 14th through Friday, November 21st to try on shirts for size, fill out an order form, and make pre-payment. Each shirt will be $25, and must be prepaid by check or cash only. Checks are preferred, and should be made out to Laura Kantor (I’m responsible for writing one check to pay the mondo bill; thanks for helping me out here). Shirts must be prepaid, no exceptions.
Sizes are available from XS to 2XL in both women’s and men’s styles. These are really awesome shirts, and the fabric feels so nice! Retail, this shirt costs $45 plain. Thanks to our generous sponsors, your cost is only $25 for a custom-printed shirt. This is what the finished shirts will look like (click for a larger view).
Here’s how to order your shirt:
• Go into Footzone during business hours.
• Let a Footzone staff member know you’d like to try on Sugoi snowshoe shirts. You’ll be given the entire box of shirts (which is amazingly small). These are plain shirts for sizing purposes only, not our custom-printed product.
• Women’s sizes have yellow sleeves; men’s sizes have red sleeves. Thank you for keeping the box of shirts tidy and organized. When done trying on, please give the box of shirts back to a Footzone staff member; don’t leave them in the dressing room.
• At the front counter, fill out an order form and attach pre-payment ($25 check or cash only). Checks should be written to Laura Kantor.
• Thank Footzone for doing this for us. While you’re there, pick up something else you might need.
• After close of try-on/order period, Laura will compile the data, and Footzone will place the order with Sugoi on our behalf. Target order date is December 1.
• Our custom-printed shirts are expected to arrive 5–6 weeks after order is placed. At that time, instructions will be given for picking up your shirt.
If you live out of the area, please email Laura to make arrangements: SnowshoeRunWithLaura@gmail.com.
I’m excited to announce that Snowshoe Run With Laura is now an event of Central Oregon Running Klub! Similar to CORK’s popular Hot Chocolate Runs, Snowshoe Run With Laura is another option for runners to stay active and motivated to keep running through the winter.
Snowshoe Run With Laura will stay the same. The name, the people; the low-key, welcoming, and all-inclusive nature; friends, and fun. We’ll keep the Facebook page and this website. I’m still at the helm. You’ll see the same friendly faces, and will meet a lot of new friends.
Oh, but now we can’t have alcohol at our runs! Not that we ever did. But that doesn’t mean we can’t go out to celebrate afterward!
Just like the Hot Chocolate Runs, CORK membership is not required to participate. CORK events are open to everyone, but I do encourage you to consider becoming a member if you aren’t already.
10 Reasons to join CORK
Snowshoe runs will change from weekly to twice a month, on 1st and 3rd Saturdays. This change would have happened regardless, as having them every week was a lot of work! Between the bi-monthly CORK Snowshoe Run With Laura events, you are welcome to organize your own runs with friends on the Snowshoe Run With Laura Facebook group.
Over a few short years, what began with a small group of friends has grown beyond my wildest imagination and positively affected so many lives. It’s time to take Snowshoe Run With Laura to the next level. I’m excited to be part of Central Oregon Running Klub’s winter offerings and am grateful for its support. I’m not just a snowshoe runner; I’m also a CORK Board member. Together we can do so much.
Now we just need snow! See you soon,
Oregon sno-park permits are required between November 1 and April 30. Fortunately, webskis/webcylery just received their supply. Stop in and say hi to our supporter and check out their winter clothing and accessories including gloves, hats and base layers. While you’re there, you might as well drool over the fatbikes and Nordic ski equipment. Cross-training, anyone?
They’re down on Industrial Ave near Recharge. Directions here.
As we get closer to snowshoe season, there are dates coming up you’ll want to know about. Read to the bottom for the date of our first run!
